2nd Section CHAMPS!!!

What a whirlwind! On April 21, 22 2023 we competed at the North American Brass Band Association Championships in Huntsville, AL. This competition is divided into multiple sections by difficulty of music, similar to college athletics divisions. The highest/toughest difficulty is Championship Section, followed by 1st Section, 2nd Section, 3rd Section and finally Open Section. For the second year in a row we competed in 2nd Section and WE WON! To say that this was unexpected is an understatement - prior to last year no band from California had ever even COMPETED in the contest! To win in our 2nd year is a testament to the wonderful musicians in our community and to the hard work and dedication of everyone in our organization. We were fortunate enough to bring out three expert clinicians (Dr. Mark A. Taylor, Dr. Amy Schumaker-Bliss and Russell Gray, conductor of the famed Foden’s Brass Band of the UK) who collectively helped change the focus and sound of our band. We went from a group of newbies to seasoned professionals in a matter of months, quite the feat for such an inexperienced group of competitors.
